I’m Chad Pelletier.
My work begins with observation. Whether through a camera lens or a brush loaded with oil paint, I am drawn to moments that might otherwise pass unnoticed — a shift in light across a treeline, the stillness before rain, or the quiet complexity in a person’s expression. Realism, for me, is not simply about accuracy; it is about presence.
Living in the Pacific Northwest deeply shapes my perspective. The forests, rivers, and changing skies of Washington continually remind me that nature is both powerful and intimate. I aim to capture that balance — the grandeur of landscape alongside its subtle, fleeting details. In my portraits, I seek something similar: an honest representation that reveals character without exaggeration.
Photography sharpened my awareness of composition and light. Painting allows me to slow that moment down — to sit with it, interpret it, and build it layer by layer. Moving between these mediums keeps me attentive and intentional. The camera teaches immediacy; the brush teaches patience.
At the core of my practice is a desire to honor what is real and enduring. In a fast-moving world, I value the act of looking closely. My work invites viewers to pause, to notice, and to reconnect — with place, with atmosphere, and with the quiet emotional weight held in ordinary moments.
About the Artist
Chad Pelletier is a self-taught oil painter and photographer based in Acme, Washington, in the Pacific Northwest. Working across both oil painting and photography, Pelletier explores realism through landscapes, nature studies, and contemporary portraiture, capturing the quiet intensity and atmospheric depth of the world around him.
Deeply influenced by the natural environment of the Pacific Northwest, Pelletier’s work reflects a strong sense of place. The forests, waterways, and shifting coastal light of Washington serve not only as subject matter but as an ongoing source of reflection and inspiration. His landscapes are grounded in observation yet imbued with subtle emotional resonance, while his portraits emphasize presence, character, and authenticity.
Having practiced photography for nine years and oil painting for four, Pelletier developed his artistic voice through disciplined self-study and consistent studio practice. His photographic background informs his approach to painting, particularly in his attention to composition, light, and tonal balance. This cross-medium experience allows him to translate photographic clarity into painterly depth, bridging immediacy with craftsmanship.
As an emerging artist, Pelletier is focused on refining his technical precision while expanding the narrative dimension of his work. His commitment to realism is not simply about accurate representation but about honoring fleeting moments — the way light moves across a landscape, the stillness before weather shifts, or the subtle expression that defines a subject’s humanity.
Through both lens and brush, Chad Pelletier continues to build a body of work that celebrates environment, presence, and the enduring power of observation.
