My work begins with observation. Whether through a camera lens or a brush loaded with oil paint, I am drawn to moments that might otherwise pass unnoticed — a shift in light across a treeline, the stillness before rain, or the quiet complexity in a person’s expression. Realism, for me, is not simply about accuracy; it is about presence.
Living in the Pacific Northwest deeply shapes my perspective. The forests, rivers, and changing skies of Washington continually remind me that nature is both powerful and intimate. I aim to capture that balance — the grandeur of landscape alongside its subtle, fleeting details. In my portraits, I seek something similar: an honest representation that reveals character without exaggeration.
Photography sharpened my awareness of composition and light. Painting allows me to slow that moment down — to sit with it, interpret it, and build it layer by layer. Moving between these mediums keeps me attentive and intentional. The camera teaches immediacy; the brush teaches patience.
